Review of Potential Forces and Stresses on a Shallow Buried Fiber Optic Cable

• The potential stress conditions that could be encountered for a shallow-buried cable were reviewed using general theories of stress conditions in soil and in backfilled trenches and simple calculations of potential stresses based on limit state soil mechanics and accepted design practice for buried pipes. The intent of the review was to help determine reasonable specifications for the test conditions under which the performance of a buried fiber optic cable is assessed.
