Materials Characterization Laboratory

Used in conjunction with the above facility is a new set of material creep test facilities. The Materials Characterization Laboratory
contains:
  • MTS 810 servohydraulic test system with TestStar IIs controller and a 55,000-lb. actuator;
  • MTS 810 servohydraulic test system with TestStar IIs controller and a 22,000-lb. actuator;
  • MTS environmental chamber for use with the MTS 810 systems;
  • Load cells with 1,000 lb., 10,000 lb., 22,000 lb., and 55,000 lb. capacities;
  • Two MTS extensometers for tensile testing;
  • Grips, fixtures and fittings for performing tensile and flexural testing;
  • 400,000-lb. Tinius Olsen tensile / compressive testing machine;
  • Four SATEC creep testing stations with environmental chambers for tensile loading;
  • Four SATEC creep testing stations with environmental chambers for compressive loading;
  • Two SATEC creep testing stations with environmental chamber for flexural loading; and
  • a 108-sq.-ft. walk-in environmental chamber for environmentally
    controlled testing.
